Your sweat is the bond which you have with yourself to follow your heart.

Your sweat is the bond which you have with yourself to follow your heart, believe in yourself and to do the work which is burning in your soul. Don’t be afraid to sweat even though no one else may understand what drives you. The work which your soul is destined to fulfil was not assigned to you loosely but rather, you were trusted to carry it out. This journey is unique to you and only YOU will understand the magnitude of the work of your soul – only when you work from the soul level.

You may wonder then, if it is your soul work, why isn’t it being done faster or without tribulations or trials?  You may wonder why you are being faced with barriers, rejections and lack of support. The answer is simple – the soul needs to grow and experience many emotions across its many lifetimes. This lifetime may not be the one where you will reap the amazing rewards you feel that you should reap.  However, if the dimension which has to be done in this lifetime, is not done, there isn’t a chance that you will ever reap what you are capable of, even though you may live through several lifetimes.

Make this lifetime count.  Don’t worry so much about the outcomes.  Engage in the present.  Make daily choices to support your soul work. Stand proud and tall today for every single bead of sweat which has come from your own inner efforts and whisper a word of gratitude to the Universe, your  Creator, your soul group which holds you in reverence and believes in you.

“Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.” Dan Gable

“Nobody ever drowned in his own sweat.” Ann Landers

Dreams Do Come True – Highlights of our Trip to Magical Kenya

“Live in your dream. Refuse to wake up until it is completely over. Then dream again.”
Bangambiki Habyarimana, The Great Pearl of Wisdom

IMAG4502“Come to Kenya while I am there.”  My friend Rosa Maria, who works in Kenya, encouraged me to visit while she was on holidays in Ottawa in December 2014. I browsed with great interest of her photos with wildlife on FB  and wish that I could be a part of it.  It seemed almost unreal to see the human beings so close to the wild side of nature.  Less than ten months later, I could not believe that I was actually in Nairobi with Rosa Maria!

The idea of going on a Safari became rooted in my mind way back in the 1990’s when my friend Aubrey Webson, who is a blind, would tell me of his amazing safari experiences.  When I met my partner, Wilson, we both shared that dream to visit Africa and to do a Safari.  The dream has been in the subconscious and conscious realm for the last decade.  This year, it inched closer towards reality when we actually made the time to visit a travel show and learned more about Africa.  The dream continued to expand in my imagination.

As if my magic, a series of events happened quite quickly this summer to inspire us even more to go to Africa.

In August 2015, Wilson and I attended a couple of conferences by Africa House, an organization within the New York University which promotes Africa.  It was an eye-opening conference for me.  Although the dream of going to Africa was alive in me, I must also say that I had my internal doubts due to the many other negative things which I had heard about Africa.  The poverty, the wars… it left a dark image in my mind. Africa was just one BIG place to me. After attending the conference, I had a better understanding of  Africa and the countries within Africa.

The speakers at the conferences painted a picture of excitement, hope, confidence, a rising nation, a growth rate of 6%, a youthful population, hospitable people, amazing wild life and a beautiful country. Best of all, we learnt that the 40th Annual Congress of the African Tourism Association was going to be held in Nairobi, Kenya. Wilson and I instantly decided that we were going to attend. One of the women whom I met at that conference, Valentina,  told me that she loved Africa and that her father fell in love with Kenya and went back to Kenya every year until he died.  She now goes to Kenya every year too and sometimes twice a year!

Just a few weeks before this, Wilson also met Jane Adam, managing of Expedition Adventures in Kenya, who encouraged him to visit Nairobi.  The two started discussions on forming ‘Gems of Africa’ a similar concept to Gems of Saint Lucia.

The dream started to reel into reality very quickly.  We received an invitation from  African Tourism Association to be speakers at the 40th Annual Congress of the ATA – a timely opportunity.  Within a couple of weeks, all the concerns we had about travelling to Africa melted away as every single detail fell in place cover the trip. Read more about the highlights of the ATA Conference.

What I experienced in Kenya far exceeded my expectations and erased many of the  negative perceptions I had about Africa and to be clear… I know now that Kenya is a unique country in Africa, with its own distinct characteristics.

I have always believed in the power of dreams and imagination.  When a dream like going to Africa becomes true, I remain speechless about the power of our minds.

Thin landrovere safari trips were amazing.   The wide expanses of lands and lakes were the greatest freedom. I enjoyed the enthusiasm of our colleagues as they clicked away with their camera and uttered expressions of amazement as they saw an animal for the first time.   I watched the wild life graze away peacefully and although we were safe in secured land rovers, being so close brought on this feeling of awe!

My favourite moment was watching a giraffe strut down the road.  The majestic beauty and elegance of the this tall creature took my breath away.  It strutted past our land rover without a flinch for the humans who were all busy trying to photograph it.  It owned the land!

Everything is just something – until you give it a VALUE

Everything is just something

In one household…

She took all the jewellery away from her daughter because she felt that her daughter did not show any interest in the beautiful collection of gems which were given to her over several years. She was upset that her daughter simply did not connect with the precious, expensive stones. She seemed to find far greater joy in designing colourful beaded bracelets. Twenty years later, she became an art and crafts teacher, a profession which brought great happiness to her.  Her mother is still perplexed about the lack of enthusiasm towards the beautiful gems.

In a big city…

She looked at the handbag in the store which was valued at $750.00. She wondered who would pay that kind of money for a handbag.  A bag is just a bag.  A $20 one is just as good as the $750.00 bag. She consciously chose to move on to the next store. Going to expensive handbag stores suddenly became a no-no for her. It was one less stop when shopping.

In another country..

He visited a small island and fell in love with it.  More than anything else in the world, he wanted to live in this space where he felt rich and free at the same time.  He went back to America, sold everything he had and made a home on the island. The tides that lapped at his feet in the early morning was priceless. He became an island man, married an island girl, had three island children and used his experience to help others understand the importance of choosing a lifestyle which speaks to you from the heart and soul.

Across the world…

The pain from her childhood casted a dark shadow over her life. She lived in fear, paralysed that she would die like her sister did. The nightmares rolled over and over in her mind until she decided to claim her life and use her sister’s death to educate others about drunkard driving. The pain lessened as she gave value to the experience. After many years, she realized that she found purpose in life, through the pain that she suffered.

In the basement…

He lived with the regret of spending much of his hard earned money drinking and partying in his younger days.   He felt that he should have been wiser and saved more money.  One day, he threw the regret out of the window and re-framed the party going days as some of the best days of his life. He got pictures of his friends and wrote a letter to all of them to reconnect and laugh about the past. The rekindling of friendship has made him a happier person. He has given new value to his past.

Everything is just something, until we give it a personal value.  Pain can be transformed. Regret can be healed. Love can be restored. Purpose can be found. Sometimes we have great treasures but we are not aware of their high value.  We can easily lock ourselves in a prison – simply because we cannot re-frame our experiences.   Sometimes, we spend days and nights and years on things which has no value to us simply because we are going along with the crowd.

Be mindful of the moments that create your future… what are you adding value to?  What is adding value to you?

Live your future now… re-define your experience so that it adds value to your life and the lives of others.

Love,

Mags

A Grandmother’s Legacy – Imagine becoming a medical doctor in your 60’s…back in the early 1900’s

 IMAG3308[1]

(Rima Aristocrat, in her office at Willis College)

“Here, I did this for you.” Rima’s grandmother handed her the Medical degree which she had just completed.

“What is this?” Rima asked.

Rima's grandmother, Tamara

“I want you to know that it is never too late to study or to do what you want to do.” Her grandmother told her.  After raising her six children, Rima’s grandmother, Tamara,  went to university in her 60’s to study medicine although she never practiced as a medical doctor.  However, she created a lifelong impression in the mind of the young eleven year old Rima, her first grandchild – that it is never too late to follow your dreams or to learn something new. Rima fondly recollected this memory during a business lunch meeting with her. She spoke with great love of her four daughters, her five grandchildren, women, newcomers to Canada and youth who are very dear to her heart. “I want to leave something better for my grandchildren.” She said reflectively. Her grandmother had a profound impact on her life as she thinks of the legacy she wants to leave behind.

So who is Rima? Rima Aristocrat is the President and CEO of Willis College in Ottawa.   I first met her at the 2015 Graduation Ceremony of Willis College of which my son Jelan was a graduate. I was drawn to her presence immediately. She radiates light and love miles from where she stands.  Jelan speaks about his teacher, Ed Mahonny and Rima in the most positive light. “Mom, the principal comes into our classroom and chats with us about everything in life.  Her door is always open and we can always go to her.  I have never felt so much love in a school.” This is only a small description of this brilliant award-honored woman who has continued the legacy of Willis College which was founded in 1896 by Stephen T. Willis.  Ownership of the College was transferred to the Aristocrat family in 1989 and she is the 4th President and CEO of the College. Willis College is the oldest Career College in Ottawa and it is notably unique as an employer led institution which has transitioned over the years from business and language training to diversifying the College offerings in Technology, and Healthcare. Willis College prides itself in preparing students to meet the needs of employers and getting students in the workforce as quickly as possible.

IMAG3310[1]Rima migrated to Canada  from Eastern Europe many years ago.  She came here as a concert pianist with a Master’s degree in education. Over the years, she has reinvented herself, used her transferrable skills and exercised leadership skills in several programs and initiatives which has all contributed towards where she is today.

What legacy did your grandparents leave for you?  What legacy do you want to leave for your children and grandchildren?

I gave HER an eviction notice today. The End of THAT relationship.

She has tormented me for ten years.  She has cost me money, time and wasted my investments.

Every single time I am about to “launch” that great creative genius inside of me, Frightful Mags pops up her head and tau-®BalfourPhoto-4551nts me mercilessly, leaving me so fearful that I retreat to this small corner where the familiar voices soothe me, reminding me over and over, that my place is just this small, dark corner. Each time it happens, I remain trapped in the dark room, even afraid to open my eyes for fear that the light would burn me.

Today, I had enough of her. Even within the dark shadows of my mind, the light came through burning those walls which has kept me languishing for so long.  She stood up to me.  Her familiar voice rose high but I found the courage to whip her back.  I cursed her up and threw a tantrum.  I heard my voice transcend the prison walls which locked me with the fear of success and saw the bolts of laziness spring out, releasing me to unfamiliar grounds and the determination to free myself.  I suddenly heard the sweetness of a voice that seem to flow out of my mouth – a voice which I barely remembered. The sweetness of the voice reminded me of the time before she built those prison walls around me.  The walls started to crumble, piece by piece. The longer I sang, the more my voice seem to become one with the entire universe.  The light engulfed me lifted me into this effortless vortex where I felt my soul expanded to push me to the outer boundaries where I could hear magnificent voices cheering me on.

But wait.  Just before I leave, I must give Frightful Mags the eviction notice so that she knows for certain that there is a price to pay when she has sucked up my earnings, time and investment for far longer than I should have tolerated.  I could have another tenant.

Dear Frightful Mags,
This is to notify you that your failure to step up to your success over the last ten years has rendered you in violation of our lease agreement which stated that you were going to:
  • stand up for your life
  • use your talent to generate a million dollar income and not merely just enough to get by
  • get rid of all these self- destructive, sabotaging beliefs such as, “I don’t have time”; I am not smart enough”; “I have not had this success in my past”; “My life is out of control,” I will rise when I win the lottery,” “Other people are not cooperating with me”, “I am no one important.”
  • be a voice for the vulnerable and
  • use your life as an inspiration to help others achieve their dreams.
The amount due for payment sums up to $10, 000,000.00. You are hereby requested to pay the above-mentioned amount within 1 year and to vacate the  premises immediately. Failure to do so will compel me to file an eviction suit against you. Your cooperation will be appreciated.
 The outer boundaries awaits.

Who do you need to give an eviction notice to?  Don’t let this tenant occupy free space.  TuneIn to what he/she is costing you and kick their but out of your life so that you can create space for the MAGNIFICENT person you are!

Sincerely,
Magnificent Magdalene

Expand yourself with inspiration… therein may lie an answer to something which you have been searching for…

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller
I measure the quality of my life  by the quality of moments I have with myself, my loved ones, my colleagues, total strangers or with my experience of the world around me. I know for a fact that apart from knowledge, I need inspiration to thrive – in fact, I think that we all need inspiration.   Inspiration kicks up an infusion of a sacred longing within me to expand myself and be more in tuned with what life is nudging me to do for my soul.  Inspiration is often overlooked as a critical element of what propels a person from one action to another but those who pay attention will realize that inspiration awakens the senses to new possibilities which logic does not always agree with.  I don’t go out of my way to look for inspiration but quite often, something catches my attention which resonates deeply within me and feels “true’ to my spirit.

IMAG1441_BURST002_COVER[1]

During one of our adventures at the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, we came across this globe.  As soon as I saw it, I immediately thought, “I want to embrace this globe.  It inspires me to keep up with my dream to travel the world.”  This picture is now etched in my memory and is a visual to remind me of this longing in my soul which I need to continue to fulfill. By simply looking at this picture, I can feel new life being breathed into me as I am even more inspired now to travel to new places.

Inspiration cannot be explained but it can be felt.  It is this ‘high’ that you get, this ‘extra beat’ in your heart when you see or hear  something which moves you… this feeling that sometimes leaves you light-hearted, for in a split moment, your spirit connects effortlessly and beautifully to that ‘thing’ which you simply know from deep inside of you.

All of my life, since I was a child,  I have always felt that I am a part of a great and wonderful universe.  I never saw myself limited to the small island where I was born. Reading expanded my mind to new places, adventures and cultures.  I was always up for the next trip, looked forward to talking to anyone at all and my curious mind wondered endlessly about how things and people evolved.  The world and life in general remains a beautiful mystery to me and there are many places and wonders which I am longing to see and experience.

What pictures do you have which inspires you to expand yourself?  What memories do you have of things you longed to do but have not been able to accomplish?  Where do you find your inspiration to move towards your inner calling?

Tune in to those little things which makes your soul sing and makes you feel alive. Step up and pay attention to what inspires you… within this inspiration may be an answer you have been searching for.

Love,

Magdalene

Are you so busy trying to fix life, that your own life is slipping away from you?

 DSC07717

After many years of trying to fix myself and people and things around me, I have come to realize that this “fixing” business is just a lot of crap.  We are somehow conditioned to believe that something is wrong with us or someone else and we need “something” to fix us.  My perspective now, is that in the grand scheme of things, the only person you have responsibility for is yourself and your soul knows all the answers to the things you want to fix. What we do need, is the courage to act on what we feel. Somehow, most of us are buried in the clutter of other people’s ideas or ideals and we are held hostage by things which have nothing to do with our authentic self.  Who are you?  What does your authentic self say to you? Whatever you decide to do or to be – it will be just that… and you will draw to yourself, similar energies and people who are simply in alignment with you and match with your emotional vibration. When  you are in alignment, there is no need to fix anything or anyone… life simply flows.

That means you FEEL that you are in the right job.

You FEEL that you are in the right relationship.

You MOVE when you FEEL you are in the wrong place with the wrong person.

You don’t apologize for being true to yourself because YOU know that what feels right for you.

You FEEL that you are longer struggling to be more, to have more or to do more.  Whatever you have to do FLOWS with you.

You FEEL an inner contentment that sits quietly inside of you.

Just for a moment,  try not to fix anything, anyone, any problem or any system. In this moment, you will find peace regardless of whatever is confronting you. Keep on multiplying this moment over and over again… and you will realize that you can live a greater, more magnificent life by not needing or wanting to fix yourself or anyone.

BE PRESENT.

FOCUS ON YOUR BREATH.

BREATHE IN AND OUT.

FEEL GRATITUDE FLOWING THROUGH YOUR BODY.

Just keep on repeating, “thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you….”

I give thanks now  for what I have considered to be flaws and weaknesses because these are actually assets when aligned with the right people and circumstances.

I enjoy more moments of simply being fine wherever I am because I know for a fact that something in my thoughts took me to that place.  If I am not happy with where I am, I know now, that I need to change a thought pattern to get me more where I want to be.

If you can’t compose a peaceful inner space…how can you fix anything or anyone? Your vibration of peacefulness will attract more peace… then you won’t need to fix anything…. You will find that inner space to be true to yourself. All else will fall in place.

TuneIn and StepUp to simply being the best of who you are.  Life will align with you. Guess what – YOU are perfectly fine, perfectly made… and you are right where your thoughts have led you.

Love,

Magdalene
