Let Nothing Disturb You – Prayer of St.Theresa of Avila

St. Theresa of Avila

Over the last few days, I have been busy decluttering my space both at the office and at home.  It brings fresh energy, makes you feel better about your work and sets a tone of preparation for exciting things to come.

I found old photographs, cards, poems, gifts and souvenirs from friends…I even found a notebook with phone numbers of friends whom I have not been in touch with for a long time! I redecorated a bulletin board in my office and stuck some thank you cards and photos of my colleagues at work, my loved ones and even colleagues who have moved to other countries or other jobs.  However, in all of this cleaning, I also came across these words from St. Theresa of Avila, which I wrote several years ago.  It is a timeless, priceless and holds true today.

Let go of your worries.  Have peace in your heart.

Let nothing disturb you

Let nothing frighten you

All things pass away

God never changes

Patience obtains all things

He who has God lacking for nothing

God alone suffices

Theresa of Avila

I just can’t help myself – falling in love…with you…

40th birthday 600

I have been there helplessly.

I don’t think anyone can give a tutorial on how to fall in love because we simply fall in love.

Some of my friends from various cultures who are reading this are likely thinking, “Magdalene, in my culture, we don’t fall in love.  Our marriages are arranged, we make a commitment and we build a life!  There is nothing like falling in love… this is all crap!” O.K.  got it and I know that this formula works as well!  People who have been married for many years, will also tell you, that staying married and in a long-lasting relationship is about commitment (and sometimes not necessarily happiness).

But if you have experienced falling in love helplessly, you know what I am talking about. It is one of those  things that I find fascinating but which also leaves me feeling a bit baffled because there is something in that experience which is not logical at all but which is exhilarating beautiful and leaves you feeling completely vulnerable.  Worst yet, you can fall in love helplessly with  nothing tangible to glue the relationship together.  Ouch!   My sister Angela, gave some words of wisdom to a young cousin at her 16th birthday.  She said, “You will fall in love but you will need to learn how to use your mind and your heart together!”  WOW, I thought.  How do you train a 16-year-old to do that!

At 16, my parents almost disowned me for falling in love with a man who they would have never considered to be a likely prospect for their daughter. I still remember the day I first saw him, completely intrigued with his hands drumming away at his drums during my first dance class, with a dance group. Did I fall in love with his hands? The drums? His soul rhythm? What happened next had no grounding in anything real – we became entangled in something exhilarating beautiful, led to complete heartbreak a couple of years later but now that I am writing about this almost 30 years later, I know that there was nothing I could have done to stop me or him from having that experience.

What do we fall in love with? A physical look? Touch? Smell? Connection? Achievement? intelligence? Personality?

One person in a powerful position once said to me, “I think the women are falling in love with my position.. not with me.”
Another person said, “Oh they fall in love with my wallet!”

I don’t think that either of these are about falling in love.

Why does one person linger on your mind than any other person?  Even after a relationship breaks off, you still continue to think of that one person who just lighted your life, even for a brief moment.

I wish that falling in love was like traffic lights – tells us when to go, when to slow down and when to stop!

Falling in love does not mean you have a relationship with someone.

Falling in love does not mean that the relationship will last either.

Falling in love does not mean that he will love you back or she will love you back.

Falling in love may mean that you are sharing a past life together and there are still karmic ties that need to be completed.

Falling in love may also lead to everlasting love!

Falling in love is  complicated because we have no control over it!  When we fall… we fall so helplessly.  It makes us so vulnerable!

Yet, if you have experienced this, you may agree that there is  little more powerful than that indescribable feeling you feel when you are in love…. intoxicated with the sound, smell, taste, feel… of this person, even when you know you can do nothing about making them love you back! If the experience is mutually shared, falling in love is sweet. it is like walking with God where  your energy is so high that  life just becomes more beautiful all around.  You have the ability  right there to invite all kinds of miracles in your life because you vibrate at such a high frequency in the universe.  Just take a look at someone’s face who is in love.  It literally glows!

Why am I writing about falling in love?  Am I in love?

I live in love.  I breathe love. I simply love loving!

But this one is dedicated to my young friend who is in love.  In a recent conversation he shared with me that he is so much in love but does not know what to do. When is the right time to let her know?  How should he let her know?  He said, “I just can’t stop thinking about her!”

My advice – enjoy the feeling.  Tell her. Show her. Take a risk and be vulnerable.  Give it time because she too is vulnerable.

If she returns that feeling, YOU are a winner.  If she does not, YOU are still a winner because you have opened your heart a bit more by allowing yourself to experience such a beautiful emotion.

Now, what if she does not love you back?

Keep on falling in love with yourself!  Keep on meeting new people!  Find a way to love her and let her go because you know that at the end of the day, love is best when it is reciprocated. When two people are not on the same page, it can be quite painful.

When you love yourself, like no one else can… you will be surprised to see how much love you get back in return. You see, you can’t love someone else, without loving yourself first!  And love, is the greatest of all.  By simply finding ways to love and to give love away, you naturally increase your vibration in the universe and attract more love to you.

My friend, have fun falling in love with yourself this weekend! TuneIn to your loving self and Stepup to make every moment of your life, WORTH LIVING!!!!

The Power Of Writing Your Soul Mission… You Can Live An Inspired Life!!!

DSC07491

I once thought that having a job called a “teacher” would be what I would be for the rest of my life. I love teaching and I was called to this profession from a very young age.  Over the years, due to changes in my life such as  geographical relocation and my search for meaning, I no longer practice being a teacher  as defined by the profession. Moving to Canada made it even more complicated because I was not prepared to go through the licensure process to become licensed to teach here.  This left a hole in my heart and there are moments when I feel sad that I don’t have a classroom and students to teach passionately.

About a year ago, I started a process of inner self-reflection to figure out what my soul mission was so that I could die in peace knowing that I fulfilled it.  I spent hours and hours reading and researching  and wrote and re-wrote several mission statements until I found the one which resonated with my soul. As I studied some of the people I admire, I realize they don’t simply have a job… they live an inspired life which brings out their creativity and causes them to experience life in a magical way. Then boom!!! Something magical happened to me  when I finally wrote something that spoke to my soul –  I had an Aha moment!   Even though I no longer called myself a teacher, I still practice the art of teaching in my current career and in my personal life. In fact, this blog is a product of living my soul mission!

Here is my soul mission:

“My soul mission in this lifetime is to learn and share knowledge which will inspire and motivate others to expand their souls and be inspired to live their own life mission. I live my soul mission by: a) facilitating, training and coaching ; b) writing and c) sharing resources and tools with and from others”

The power of having this soul mission is that I can live it anywhere and anytime and it helps me make daily decisions about how I choose to spend my life. I actually lived my soul mission through my teaching career!  I am not restricted to a classroom – my classroom is this huge earth school.  I live my soul mission when I talk to a total stranger or when I have a conversation with the lady next door or the old man who happily educates me about the plants in his garden or challenging the thoughts of my teenagers or facilitating a conference with hundreds of people. Living from that authentic space makes my soul come alive and interestingly enough I experience hundreds of “WOW” moments all day long that fuels me and leaves a broad smile on my face.  I feel joyful and that joy is instantaneously communicated to others.

Try writing a personal mission statement if you have not yet done so. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself:

  • As a child or even at any point in your life, what were some of the things you did or thought about that made you feel excited? ( For me, reading, teaching, writing, creating art)
  • What are the unique strengths you have that comes naturally to you? (For me, communicating with others)
  • Look around you… what are some of the things you collect without even thinking much about them? (For me, its books, paper, pens,  art supplies, journals, movies, autobiographies)
  • What do you like to do that feels effortless? (For me, talking, writing, talking to God, walking, enjoying nature, entertaining)
  • What do you like to do that makes you lose track of time? ( For me,  writing)
  • If you died right now, what would you regret not doing? (Not writing this blog and not creating more learning/sharing opportunities)

Now, don’t confuse your soul mission with your job!  Your job may be the vehicle to live your soul mission but it may not be the full package.  After writing  your soul mission, ask yourself “How do I live my soul mission through this job?”  You will be surprised to see that you will look at your job in a different way. This may cause you to start thinking of a different career path or to integrate some interesting elements in your current job or seek opportunities for you to do more of what truly speaks to you. For me, I discovered that while my career changed over the years, I have been fortunate to live my soul mission (even when it was not written) and that my current job is an amazing vehicle to live my soul mission in a very powerful way. The daily grinds no longer faze me as they used to as the mission is now BIGGER and MORE POWERFUL than the trivial ups and downs.

TuneIn to hear what life is saying to you and StepUp to do something about it!  Happy writing!!!! Check out my daily inspirations page to see what my last weekend’s inspiration was:)

Have The Courage To Ask For What You Desire – Every Small Request Can Be Manifested

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Have you ever thought of something and it manifests right away – even when it was a fleeting wish and there was no real possibility for it to happen? I love those magic moments of divine synchronicity.

“I wish a taxi would come along” I thought wishfully. It was bitterly cold and I had underestimated the walking distance to get to my destination. At that very moment a taxi turned around the corner and stopped right at my feet. Someone got out of the taxi and I jumped in. A feeling of deep gratitude settled over me. I thanked God and the universe over and over and over for always taking such amazing care of me. It sounds too good to be true – but this type of situation is a common reality for me which is hard to explain.

It affirms the infinite possibilities that exist and the mystical realm of life that is unexplainable and in some cases completely illogical. My first real experience of manifesting something big in my life happened when I was thirteen. At that age, I started to test God’s power since “God knew all things and could do all things!” So, I gave God two challenges. One was to get a camera for me for my 13th birthday and the other was to travel to England before I was 18. Both looked impossible because we came from a poor family and I could not see any logical way that I would have those two things. I barely had books to go to school or shoes to walk with, so to think of a camera was like living in dreamland. And as for England – well, I did not have a faint idea of how that would be done.

Both of my requests were heard.

On the evening of my 13th birthday, as I walked along to road to buy bread from the local bakery – a usual routine, I met a doctor who volunteered in the local hospital. We had met each other a few times before. She stopped on her bicycle and we chatted. I told her that it was my birthday and right away she said “Why don’t you come up to the hospital? I have a gift for you!” Low and behold, she gave me a camera! I stood there shocked! (I can still remember the feeling!). God really heard me! No one else knew of my secret wish – it was only between God and I! For an entire year, I took photos in abundance. I loved my camera and best of all, after Dr. Michele completed her volunteering and went back to the USA, she developed all my films and posted the photos to me.

This event in my life was a MAJOR affirmation that I could ask for anything I wanted. God and the universe would hear me. Before my 18th birthday I continued to experience big and small miracles. The next challenge was met in another unexplainable way. At 17, I was attending Teacher’s Training College in St.Lucia. One day as I walked in the corridor, my English teacher, Mr. Allan Weeks, stopped me and asked, “How would you like to go to England?”
“What?” I asked, completely baffled. “Why would I go to England?” I asked.
“I am producing a play and you are the perfect match for the part. The play will be produced in England.”
Six months later, I was in England performing at the Commonwealth Institute with a great group of actors/actresses from St.Lucia. It was six months before my 18th birthday!

I have experienced so many, many manifestations of my thoughts and I like to call them “miracles”. They are all unexplainable and I am convinced that there is a formula unique to each of us that make things happen faster or slower. I believe that the formula is a combination of the mind and soul merging together. I have experienced manifestations / miracles at the speed of light – immediately from thought to manifestation. I have also experienced manifestations over a longer period and when I look back I can only thank the universe that what I asked for before did not happen earlier. When we trust in the great wisdom of the universe, we know that all things will happen as it should.

One thing I know without any uncertainty is that we need to ASK for what we want and don’t worry about when it will happen. Although we have to work towards what we want, I believe that if we are clear, then the universe arranges things in front of us to help our desires manifest. When we are not clear, it is hard to us to grab the opportunities, no matter how obvious they may be. Sometimes we ask for something and feel frustrated when it does not happen. It is not our job to worry about timing. The important thing is to ask and let it go. In time, all things work out for the best. The more we have that trust, more we invite miracles to happen in our lives.

TuneIn today to those things you secretly desire. Have the courage to ask for what you want, need or desire. Write them in a journal and keep checking with yourself now and then. As small miracles start manifesting in your life you will automatically StepUp to attract more and more of what you need to live an amazing life. Above all, keep on expressing gratitude each day, throughout the day, for all what you are blessed with. Abundance begins with a seed of gratitude.

Love,
Magdalene
